Tamalpais NatureWorks was founded in 1994 to create modular steel joinery, empowering people to make their own life-sustaining heirloom-quality furniture from urban wood, and contributing to the preservation of endangered forests around the world, reducing waste, greenhouse emissions, and the impact of global warming.

The heart and soul of our modular furniture is our Iconic Joinery, a system that makes designing and building lifelong furniture uniquely simple. It doesn't require a truckload of tools or the professional woodworking skills necessary to make naturally beautiful heirloom-quality furniture.

Today, we offer custom-built furniture for people who prefer not to make their own and a Maker Kitâ„¢ for people who desire affordable quality and a unique creative experience.

The following are a few high points.

1997 We Introduced our modular steel joinery at the Spring San Francisco Furniture Market.

1999 We designed and built the Master Bedroom bed for the Marin Designers Showcase.

2002 We became the seventh Marin Green Business to be certified.

2005 We presented our Urban Forester Table to 500 mayors of the world at the United Nations World Earth Day held in SF.

2012 We received a CalRecycle, Cool California honorable mention for putting urban wood to work —reducing solid wood waste and greenhouse gases.

In 2017 We designed and built our first all-steel modular pedestrian way-finder (kiosk) at the corner of Telegraph Avenue and Bancroft Way in Berkeley.

NOTE: Steel has many sustaining qualities as its the world's leading recycled material, more than glass, plastic and aluminum combined, and can be recycled endlessly with little if any loss of integrity.
